With the growing market of stoves and open fires and the mammoth rise in gas and oil prices, there are many companies now selling firewood. Here at The Log Shed, we pride ourselves on our excellent products and are a huge believers in ‘good old fashioned’ customer service. Our seasoned hardwood is thoroughly seasoned. This takes time, we do not rush it. Our strict quality standards do not fail. We carry huge stocks at all times and we do not run out. The Log Shed has expanded through word of mouth.
Be careful when buying wood from other smaller companies after Christmas or towards the end of the season as this is often the time when suppliers have run out or quality is very poor and moisture levels very high if they have not seasoned properly.
Yes, most definitely. At the home of The Log Shed we split our wood then store outside, in large wooden, covered boxes. This allows the wood to be protected from rain while allowing the air to circulate through the wood. All our seasoned hardwood is ‘seasoned’ for 24 months (2 years). All our seasoned wood is dried to an average of 20%.
This is a common question. Kiln drying is a process the wood goes through. The wood is dried in a large kiln. The reason for kiln drying is to improve the overall quality of the wood providing you with a low moisture content of around 15%. This provides a clean burn with maximum heat output and therefore you are likely to use less wood. The kilns are wood fired so very Eco-friendly.
Whether you are buying Kiln dried or Seasoned hardwood from The Log Shed all our wood is ready for immediate burning. This can be bought any time of year to suit, however we do recommend you keep stocked up to avoid running out.
This is a common question, however you should never buy wood by weight. The wetter it is the heavier it is. We sell wood by volume. Kiln dried or seasoned hardwood is likely to produce twice as much heat as poorly seasoned wood and wood last you twice as long, therefore far better value.
Our kiln dried Ash is dried to an average of 15% moisture. Our ‘Seasoned Hardwood’ is dried to an average of 20%.
Our standard log size is 9 inches which suits 90% of fires. We also offer Dumpy bags and Barrow bags with 6 inch logs for those who require smaller logs at an additional cost.
