Clean Air Fact Sheet – Woodsure statement 21st January 2025
The following update from Woodsure may be of interest to some of our customers.
Following recent media reports and campaigns, Woodsure wants to provide clarity regarding some burning questions. With so many mixed messages and apparently conflicting statistics, it is important to focus on the things we can do to minimise the effect of burning on our environment.
The fact is that the Government has not said it intends to ban domestic burning. Research and consultation have revealed that the consequences of attempting to ban burning at this time are not acceptable to many vulnerable groups; as well as being almost impossible to enforce at this time in the development of clean heat and sustainable use of heat generating fuels and technologies. It is important that we stay focused on minimising emissions, continuing research, and educating stove users to burn as cleanly as possible across the UK.
A key takeaway to consider when reading headlines is that government-published reports show annual PM2.5 emissions have continued to decrease – despite recent increases in popularity of stoves across the UK. Woodsure continues to promote the use of better, cleaner, higher quality fuels to reduce emissions. and our industry works hard to innovate. Organisations – like HETAS, our sister company – work with our registered installers, approved sweeps, servicing companies, and retailers to educate users across the UK to help the continued reduction of emissions.
Woodsure and HETAS, alongside many manufacturers, suppliers, and other trade professionals continue to push for the use of the cleaner burning stoves, better quality fuels, regular and professional appliance maintenance, chimney sweeping, and the best-practice use of appliances in the home. Maintaining these efforts will help to ensure emissions continue to reduce. Innovation and education are integral to ensuring emissions can be minimised and the best, most efficient practices must continue to be encouraged.
Our customers should be re-assured that all our firewood is Woodsure Ready to Burn accredited. Woodsure regularly, and without notice, conduct site visits, where they take away randomly chosen logs from our barns to take away and measure moisture content.
